Initially I bought one of these capes to see if the quality was as good as all the other Lakeland capes and saddles. I was not disappointed; the range of hook sizes that these capes accommodate is magnificent. The hackles themselves are soft and full of good webby fibres, perfect for wets or spiders. In addition, because they are genetic, the stems are fine, allowing many turns without unwanted bulk. The amount of tyable hackles in each cape must be phenomenal.

The colour is perfect for one of the greatest wet flies ever tied, the Claret Bumble. Genuine Whiting quality with wonderfully Webby hackles and fine stalks lets me tie down to 16’s and also gives me the top end option of using it in a Salmon or Sea trout pattern. Very happy.

I wouldn’t have thought of calling this copper olive but having now looked at it closely, I can see the reasoning. There is definitely an olive in there, leaning slightly toward golden but then the light copper takes over.but not in a severe manner. Overall it is a beautiful shade with the same soft Whiting hackles, I shall enjoy using it.

Lovely Cape, that I used to tie some lovely flies. The cape has lots of feathers that are long and flexible, so tying wet flies is very easy with this cape. It would be easy to just delete the request for feedback. It would also be easy to give five stars because it came on time. I believe that the trouble Whiting and Nigel go to so that we can buy, I think the best capes and saddles produced deserves an honest comment. After 40 years tying I know that a fly can be tied with virtually all capes, even the worst available. Why make the task harder by using thick stemmed hackles that clog up the hook shank and sparse and overly long webbing when quality is available for the asking? There are very important aspects to a good cape and saddle. I believe one to be the stem diameter of the hackle itself, the size variety on the cape, the consistency of web length and the colour as advertised over the whole cape or saddle. This golden olive cape satisfies all aspects of a cape able to provide fly after fly of top quality at, let’s face it a reasonable price. I buy all my capes from Lakeland because I know what to expect when I open the package. No, I don’t work for Whiting or Nigel, I just believe that credit should be given where credit is due.

A stunning Whiting Exclusive Cape dyed the perfect Golden Olive from Nigel. This is a fantastic value for money cape with 100s of usable feathers. A perfect cape for nymphs and Lough style patterns. Excellent quality as usual however the colour is so close to Cinnamon in the same range that there is almost no difference. A bit disappointed, as I was hoping for a another colour to use rather than a fractionally darker shade of Cinnamon.

The only cape for tying the proper blue Zulu. This cape is just a replacement for one that has tied hundreds and hundreds of flies and is now being used on larger sea trout and Salmon flies. As with all Whiting capes the quality of the hackle and the fine stems go an awful long way to producing the best flies.

I bought three capes, Golden olive, burnt orange and this one, Kingfisher blue. My review of this pure coloured cape mirrors my two other reviews. This cape provides an enormous amount and variety of hackles to satisfy the tying of salmon flies, sea trout and the whole range of wet flies. The cape quality is top of the range with fine stemmed beautifully webbed hackles with a true colour throughout. The tyer couldn’t ask for better.

My review of this burnt orange hen cape mirrors that of my review of the Golden olive cape. The quality, density and variety of top quality hackles is tremendous. This, in my humble opinion after tying for 40 years is perfection at a reasonable price. The colour is exquisite.
